The Carriage House is hidden away in a woodland clearing in the idyllic grounds of a private country house, in an oasis of complete peace on the south east edge of Dartmoor National Park. The setting belies the easy access to the huge variety of attractions and amenities of this popular holiday area.
The Moor itself offers walking, riding and fishing amid spectacular scenery, whilst unrivalled coastal attractions are less than an hour by road – beautiful cliff walks, hidden coves and exhilarating sailing in famous estuaries such as Salcombe and Newton Ferrers. Exeter and Plymouth are also easily reached, as are many National Trust properties such as Compton Castle, Killerton House, Cotehele (just over the border into Cornwall), and the very unusual and interesting Castle Drogo, right in the Moor itself.
A particular bonus for guests is that game fishing (salmon and sea trout) can be arranged on a private, productive and highly regarded stretch of the River Dart, which passes through the grounds. The outstandingly beautiful area of woodland and riverbank (an SSSI) below the cottages is also available for guests to walk and picnic in - a rare privilege.
Accommodation
Large, wood-floored hall/sitting room, divisible by folding double doors, with woodburner, comfortable seating and picture windows. Dining room with large table and chairs for 8 +. Light, modern fitted kitchen with French doors to side patio. Downstairs bathroom. Open stairs from main sitting room to two double bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom. Second set of stairs, enclosed by a door from the hall area, to a large bedroom, with zip & link bed offering a choice of 6ft double or twin beds, with en suite bathroom. Further stairs to another very large bedroom with zip & link bed offering a choice of 6ft double or twin beds.
Front and side patios with seating and barbecue. Lovely private walled garden on far side of drive/parking area.
