Welcombe, Hartland, Bradworthy, Clovelly, and main A39 Bideford to Bude Road

Welcombe Mouth

secluded beach, surrounded by cliffs, popular with surfers. Close to the North Devon Coastal Path, and surrounded by a nature reserve. The cliffs show a range of geological features, including classic folding of the strata. 1 mile from the small village of Welcombe, with a shop and post office and pottery, Old Smithy Inn (now reopened under new ownership), 11th century St Nectan's Church and the ancient St Nectan's Well, from which the village gets its name. Marsland Point. Village of Morwenstow and Bush Inn, 3 miles along coast path. Nature reserve. Welcombe village, Darracott. Docton Mill Gardens, 4 miles. Hartland 7 miles, Bradworthy 8 miles, Kilkhampton 8 miles, Bude 10 miles, Bideford 20 miles, Clovelly 9 miles.

The Hermitage has become famous among rock music fans, since several Deep Purple songs were recorded there. Please note that advertisements for a cottage called 'Hermitage' have been appearing on the Web and elsewhere. These advertisements apparently relate to a barn conversion at Southhole, two miles up the road: there is no connection with The Hermitage.

Hartland

a wide range of local facilities, including pubs, cafes, general store, post office and newsagents, fish and chip shop, art, craft and pottery shops, medical practice. Regrettably, the Hartland bakery has now closed. Hartland Point and lighthouse, 2 miles, Hartland Abbey gardens, 1 mile, Hartland Quay and Hotel, 2 miles, Stoke (and Stoke Church) 1 mile, Clovelly 6 miles, Rosemoor Gardens 25 miles, Bideford and ferry to Lundy Island, 17 miles, Westward Ho! 15 miles, Appledore, 15 miles.
