Surrounded with open fields, woods and a stream, nestling in the foot hills of Exmoor National Park, approach Huxtable Farm by ‘Strawberry lane’, in which wild strawberries can be picked in early summer. The Medieval Devon Longhouse, dating back to 1520 has all the modern facilities amidst it’s many original features, such as oak screen panelling and beams, open fireplaces with bread ovens, uneven floors and low doorways! It was here that the name ‘Huxtable’ originated in 1330. The eighty acres of woodland and pasture are home to a flock of sheep, usually lambing in march, chickens, goats and much wildlife, rabbits, pheasants, buzzards, badgers and even deer in the early morning. The sheep dog ‘Polly’ attempts to keep all in order whilst ‘Tigger’ the springer spaniel loves attention. From the highest point on the farm enjoy wonderful panoramic views of Devonian fields with Exmoor and Dartmoor in the distance.
